Italian Regional Elections 2020: Centro-Destra Scores Victory

Low Voter Turnout: Only 63.8% of Eligible Voters Cast Ballots

Breaking News: Center-Right Alliance Secures Majority in Eight Regional Elections

The 2020 Italian regional elections, held amidst the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, saw a significant drop in voter turnout compared to previous elections. According to preliminary results, only 63.8% of eligible voters cast their ballots, a sharp decline from the 73% turnout in 2015.

Despite the low voter turnout, the center-right alliance led by former Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi's Forza Italia party emerged as the clear victor in eight of the nine regions that held elections. The alliance won in the regions of Liguria, Tuscany, Marche, Abruzzo, Campania, Puglia, Basilicata, and Calabria.
